Well Met Gentle Cousin;
The Shire of Heatherwyne is the Pomona Valley
Chapter of The Society
for Creative Anachronism (SCA). The SCA is an international organization
dedicated to researching and recreating pre-17th century European history as
authentically as possible and disseminating this information to its members and
the interested public through demonstration and instruction.
Encompassing the cities of Pomona, San Dimas, La Verne,
North Chino, Diamond Bar, Claremont, Montclair, Ontario, Upland,
Rancho Cucamonga, and the surrounding areas within the Pomona Valley of
California, the Shire of Heatherwyne, is a geopolitical entity of the
Kingdom
of Caid.
Here in Heatherwyne we warmly embrace within our borders
the College
of Boethius (Claremont Colleges) and are bordered to the east by what
is known as the Barony
of Dreiburgen (greater San Bernardino/Riverside Counties), to the
south by the Barony of Gyldenholt (Orange County),
to the west by the Barony of
the Angels (greater Los Angeles County) and to the north by the San
Gabriel Mountains, beyond which lies the Shire of Al-Sahid (Barstow, Victorville,
Johnson Valley and surrounding areas).
Heatherwyne is home to monthly Guild Meetings, with something
happening virtually every day of the month. For further information on these
guilds, their meeting times and places, as well as contact information for
current and upcoming meetings, please see our Guilds
Page.
Since recreating the Middle Ages as they could have been is a
focal point of the SCA, martial skills are focused upon as much as the Finer
Arts. Fighter Practices for Heavies, Lights, Rapier, Boffers and Target Archery
are all held locally. For more information, please see the Marshallate Page.
The Shire is known to host a minimum of four events each year,
which are the March Hare Tourney, Heatherwyne Anniversary, Tugboat Olympics and
the Yule Celebration, as well as various demonstrations for libraries, schools
and other educational groups. For information on events past, present and future,
or for information on how to contact the Shire about a demo, please see our
Events Page.
Heatherwyne is home to many dedicated individuals who strive to
make the Shire, and the Kingdom, a better place. For the list of those who are
currently volunteering their time and service, as well as their respective
contact information, please see our Officers Page.
Having been in existance since the formation of the Kingdom of
Caid, our humble Shire has assuredly accrued many tales and personal accounts
of varying degrees, though currently only a miniscule smattering have thus far
been archived. We warmly encourage you to peruse, at your leisure, through
those tales now presented within our Historical
Register.
The Shire also happens to publish a bi-monthly newsletter entitled
"The Heatherwyne Grapevyne" which holds notices and articles, monthly calendars
of Shire happenings, and other interesting items of note. For further specifics
regarding the newsletter you are encouraged to contact the
Chronicler.
